Infant Dedication
As Christians we believe that Jesus still calls people to follow him today.
At West Malling Baptist Church we believe that when this happens the proper
response is baptism. We call this believers baptism. Therefore we don't
baptise (christen) babies.
However we know that everyone is special and precious to Jesus, especially children. In fact Jesus told his disciples off when they refused to allow
children to come to him.
Instead of baptism for babies we have a special service called a “Dedication Service”. This thanks God for the life of the child; enables the parents to
dedicate themselves to the Christian upbringing of the their child; for the church to commit itself to supporting them as a family; and for the child to be presented to and received by the congregation in token of God's love.
